Just A Few Of My Thoughts …

“They all got into a boat and began to cross over to the other side of the lake. And Jesus, exhausted, fell asleep. Suddenly a violent storm developed, with waves so high the boat was about to be swamped. Yet Jesus continued to sleep soundly. The disciples woke him up, saying, ‘Save us, Lord! We’re going to die!’ But Jesus reprimanded them. ‘Why are you gripped with fear? Where is your faith?’ Then he stood up and rebuked the storm and said, ‘Be still!’ And instantly it became perfectly calm. The disciples were astonished by this miracle and said to one another, ‘Who is this Man? Even the wind and waves obey his Word.”‘ Matthew 8:23-27 TPT

Storms, no matter their origin, so often are known to creep in, catching us off-guard, causing fear to sometimes overwhelm us. These are the times when our faith needs to overcome our fears. How can we continue to remain strong, to stand ready to confront the inevitable trials that are bound to arise, catching us totally off guard? The disciples were blessed with Jesus in their midst, with the need to only wake him. Although we may not be able to have his physical presence standing before us, our hearts can be filled with his Spirit.

In this passage Matthew is describing the intensity of the storm that is managing to toss the boat back and forth with waves so violent the boat was beginning to fill with water. Fear, in all its fury, had totally taken over. Of course, wakening Jesus was critical at this point, but he immediately demanded the storm to cease, while in the same breath asking the disciples about their faith. Whether we are ready, or not, storms are a certainty. We are blessed, in that no matter the nature of the storm, through faith, the power of Jesus can be ours, simply by our asking.

Heavenly Father, help us to remember that since life is ever-changing, the need to keep our faith filled with continued strength, growing through your Word is a must. and be ever so thankful.

In Christ Love
