ADDICTIONS/GOOD OR BAD?

The word addiction means: the fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing or activity; not having control over doing, taking or using something to the point where it could be harmful to you. Most of us think of addictions as bad due to drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc. However there are some addictions such as a regimented diet, (addicted to eating only certain things), regular exercise, (addicted to certain ones
that will make you feel more successful), that are less harmful as long as you don’t let them control your life. There are even people who can become addicted to other people believing that whatever they say or do, above everything else is the truth. I think most of us have some addiction. Mine is coffee, as is for many, but something I can certainly do without if need be. Symptoms of addiction is when you are unable to stop whatever it is you depend on, and think you need, in order to survive. God has been trying to tell us not to depend on material things to survive. His truth will set us free, all we need to do is listen, let Him fill us and depend on Him!

Proverbs 2.5:28
A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, for any addictions we may be dealing with give us the strength to have the self-control to overcome them if they are becoming harmful to us and those around us. Continue to remind us that you are always in control and not ourselves, let us be dependent on you and nothing, or no-one else. In your precious name we pray. Amen
