We all have clutter in our lives at one time or another. Our homes can be overrun with clutter, as well as our work place, not to mention our personal and spiritual life. Where to begin? This time of year we think of spring cleaning and de-cluttering the ”stuff” we no longer need in our house, sometimes easier said than done! One rule of thumb is, if you haven’t used it in a year or more, let it go. If you can’t let it go you become overwhelmed and can get buried in it! The same thing can happen in our personal and spiritual life. Verse 6 of Ecclesiastes 3 tells there is “a time to keep and a time to cast away.” Why do we so often want to hang on to what has happened to us in the past, sometimes it’s out of guilt of what we should have done and didn’t do, or a hurt that just doesn’t seem to ever heal. Jesus took care of all that for us, we need not only to remember that but understand it. It’s all in front of us if we will listen to His written words, the ones that were written just for us. He wants us to persevere and be happy, and we can do that only with less clutter in our lives!
Matthew 6:19-21
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal, for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help us to continually de-clutter our lives with the things we no longer need to hold onto or the things that will hold us back. We need less chaos in our lives and center more on you to find the peace we long for. In your precious name we pray. Amen
