Hebrews 11:1 tells us “Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” As Christians most all of us think we get that, but do we really? Understanding the kind of faith Abraham had is true faith. He believed what God told him would happen and he never wavered from that, even when it came time to sacrifice his own son and we know that didn’t happen. Some people feel if they do good works that shows they are faithful servants, but that’s not how it works. We do good works because that is what our faith leads us to do. Through growth in the Lord we learn to lean in on His words to lead us, and the more we do that the more our faith grows . Even at an early age Mary learned what true faith was when she was told she would be pregnant with our savior, maybe a little disbelief at first but her faith quickly confirmed her reality. True faith also keeps our patience controlled as far as wanting things done immediately, which as humans that is normal, but our faith tells us “not on our time but His.” Where are you in your faith walk? Do you do a good work out of obligation, have to, feeling guilty, or are you led by faith expecting nothing in return? A work in progress for most of us, but for me, having learned more about Abraham’s faith recently, I want to be like that!
Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, remind us daily that to do good works is our faith through you, not ourselves. Lead us everyday in ways to when, where and what you need us to do, in your precious name we pray. Amen
