Just A Few Of My Thoughts …

“Jesus replied, ‘Where is your faith? Can’t you see how wayward and wrong this generation is? How much longer do I stay with you and put up with your doubts? Bring your son to me.’ Then Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him and the boy was instantly healed. Later the disciples came to him privately and asked, ‘Why couldn’t we cast out the demon?’ He told them, ‘It was because of your lack of faith. I promise you, if you have faith inside of you no bigger than the size of a small mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move away from here and go over there,’ and you will see it move! There is nothing you couldn’t do!” Matthew 17:17-20 TPT

A mustard seed is probably one of the smallest. if not the smallest seed used in planting our gardens. It is smaller than the head of a straight pin used in sewing and can be easily
overlooked. So, according to Jesus, we are powerless without faith, attempting to resolve
life’s circumstances on our own. Many times, as we find ourselves in the middle of situations where answers fail to arise, remembering, just as Jesus ask the disciples, he is also asking us, ‘Where is your faith?’

In this passage, the disciples were attempting to cast out a demon, but were unsuccessful in doing so. Jesus was explaining that they could do nothing of that magnitude within their own power. Therefore, his question for them was, ‘Where is your faith?’ Since the mustard seed is such a small particle, it was a perfect example as to the amount it takes begin to fill us with the Spirit of God, enabling us with his power. Life is filled with obstacles, many of which can easily turn into mountains, tearing us apart. Jesus is reminding us to take our eyes off the mountains, and with faith, even the size of a mustard seed, to know the answers can be ours, simply as we ask.

Heavenly Father, help us to remember, that no matter the circumstance, mustard seed faith is only a beginning, but it is a must, and be ever so thankful.
