“Yes, all things work for your enrichment so that more of God’s marvelous grace will spread to more and more people, resulting in an even greater increase of praise to God, bringing him even more glory! So no wonder we don’t give up. For even though our outer person gradually wears out, our inner being is renewed every single day. We view our slight, short-lived troubles in the light of eternity. We see our difficulties as the substance that produces for us an eternal, weighty glory far beyond all comparison, because we don’t focus our attention on what is seen but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but the unseen realm is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:15-18 TPT
Life is so unpredictable, with one day seeming to flow freely, only to have the next turn us upside down, bringing with it untold turmoil. We have all faced problems with losses leaving us with the feeling that giving up would be so much easier than plowing our way through. While in the midst of so many of life’s trials, focusing on the present pain prevents us from seeking the presence of the Holy Spirit.
In this passage, the Apostle Paul is describing some of the sufferings and trials forced on him simply due to his preaching and spreading the gospel of Jesus. Instead of giving up, or letting persecutions wear him down, Paul looked to the Holy Spirit for his inner strength. As with Paul, in the midst of our troubles and our weaknesses, our strength is found through our faith in Jesus. Imagine our troubles giving God the opportunity to demonstrate his power within us, all for the asking!
Heavenly Father, help us to remember, no matter the circumstance before us, you hold the answer, and as we seek you, by faith we are made strong.
In Christ Love
