“Let me describe the one who truly follows me and does what I say. He is like a man who chooses the right place to build a house and then lays a deep and secure foundation. When the storms and floods rage against that house, it continues to stand strong and unshaken through the tempest, for it has been wisely built on the right foundation. But the one who has heard my teaching and does not obey it is like a man who builds a house without laying any foundation whatsoever. When the storms and floods rage against that house, it will immediately collapse and become a total loss. Which of these two builders will you be?” Luke 6:47-49 TPT
Most of us probably do not take the time to think about our foundation, in other words, that which has been instilled within us from our youth. Realize it or not, this foundation begins at birth, with all that we are exposed to as we grow and learn, no matter where we are, or whomever we encounter. Without a strong beginning, the storms of life can easily take their toll. Without a foundation with its beginnings being formed with Jesus, the challenges we face in today’s society can bring us down.
In this passage, Jesus is explaining, that obeying God is like building a house on a strong foundation that can face the most unpredictable of storms. When all is calm, strong foundations don’t seem to be so important, but let a crisis arise, and our very being can be quickly shattered. A structure built without a strong foundation, or in the sand, without Him, will surely collapse amid the storms. As our youth build their respective foundations, facing continued testings can be resolved through Him, all for the asking!
Heavenly Father, help us to remember the importance of making sure we secure a solid foundation, that of which is found throughout your Word, looking to you and your love for us, and be ever so thankful.
In Christ Love
