Aging is an interesting process. For some, aging is agonizing, others embrace it and some just accept it because that is the cycle of life. For those that agonize over it and think they have to run to the nearest plastic surgeon at the first sign of a wrinkle, I feel sorry for, having to spend thousands of dollars on something that is inevitable and could even cause more damage! For those who embrace the aging process, bless you. It shows strength, humor, beauty and wisdom in growing older and that is a great example for younger people. Growing older doesn’t mean we stop having fun or do things we enjoy and want to do, although more limited, but that’s when we learn to embrace it, we can’t always do the things the way we once did, and that is acceptance as well. Having recently visited my sisters in Ohio I saw two examples of what aging can do. My 89 year old sister is an independent facility where she is on the go frequently, doesn’t hold back much. My other sister who is 86, is quite the opposite. After some episodes that scared her, she has let fear take over and now sits most of the time. I tried to encourage her but not living close enough to her, I can’t monitor the way I would like to. I pray regularly for her that God will motivate her and help her overcome that fear. Like it or not aging comes to us all, you can agonize over it or embrace it, but learn to accept it as part of God’s plan for us.
Psalm 71:18
Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, 0 God, until I proclaim Your power to the next generation, Your might to all who are to come.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, sustain and grant us grace as we age so that we may not be fearful of the changes both physically and mentally that will come with aging. Stop fear from blocking our desires to move forward in the things that we can still do. In your precious name we pray. Amen
