Once again, the holiday season is upon us and no matter how hard we try to look past the materialistic part of Christmas it is still in our faces. To some extent there is some excitement in the preparation, but even more excitement as to why we celebrate Christmas. It is unfortunate for those who don’t understand that and maybe they need the “ghosts of Christmas past, present and future” to remind them of what they should be grateful for. It is more than the gifts, parties and huge dinners, it is about the birth of our Lord and Savior and without that there would be “no celebration!” We all need to stop and give thanks and praise for the everyday gifts and blessings we receive because of the birth of this “wonderful, beautiful and miraculous child!”
Isaiah 9:2-7
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light: those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined. For you have broken the yoke of his burden and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is give: and the government will be upon His shoulder, and His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom to order it and establish it with judgement and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Prayer:
We give thanks to you every day, Lord, for the gifts and blessings you bestow upon us. Help us to look past the material things and remember the reason for the season. Amen
