“Against all odds, when it looked hopeless, Abraham believed the promise and expected God to fulfill it. He took God at his word, and as a result he became the father of many nations. In spite of being nearly one hundred years old when the promise of having a son was made, his faith was so strong that it could not be undermined by the fact that he and Sarah were incapable of conceiving a child. He never stopped believing God’s promise, for he was made strong in his faith to father a child. And because he was mighty in faith and convinced that God had all the power needed to fulfill his promises, Abraham glorified God! So now you can see why Abraham’s faith was credited to his account as righteousness before God. And this declaration was not just spoken over Abraham, but also over us. For when we believe and embrace the one who brought our Lord Jesus back to life, perfect righteousness will be credited to our account as well.” Romans 4:18a, 19-24 TPT
How many of us could have, or would have given in to doubt, leaving an opening for Satan to obtain a foothold, a place for fear to creep in, if we had been in Abraham’s shoes? Abraham’s life, like so many of ours, seemed to be filled with mistakes and failures, as well as great wisdom and goodness, but his faith and trust in God was consistent.
In this passage, the Apostle Paul is describing the extraordinary life of Abraham, with the promises, or covenant between him and God. Regardless of the obstacles he faced, he continued to remain faithful to God. His life was an example of faith in action, as every obstacle consistently added to his strength, and his ability to look past doubt or fear and trust God. Overcoming this negative, living a life that is pleasing to our Father, begins with faith, but we know this can be ours, all for the asking!
Heavenly Father, help us to remember, no matter the circumstance, knowing your Word and listening for the direction of Holy Spirit gives us Faith over Fear.
In Christ Love
