“Because of this, since I first heard about your strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and your tender love toward all his devoted ones, my heart is always full and overflowing with thanks to God for you as I constantly remember you in my prayers. I pray that the Father of glory, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, would impart to you the riches of the Spirit of wisdom and the Spirit of revelation to know him through your deepening intimacy with him. I pray that the light of God will illuminate the eyes of your imagination, flooding you with light, until you experience the full revelation of the hope of his calling that is, the wealth of God’s glorious inheritances that he finds in us, his holy ones!” Ephesians 1:15-18 TPT
How often in our prayers for others, do we pray for them to seek a stronger relationship with Jesus, as their Lord and Savior? In order for us to get to know anyone, we have to spend quality time with them. Short conversations are never enough. Although it is an important part of getting to know our Savior, reading about him is only a beginning. To know him is to sit with him, in his presence, and therein lies our hope.
In this passage, the Apostle Paul is praying for the Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation for each of us, in that we would get to know God personally. Reading about him is only the beginning of the relationship we should desire. Instead of just knowing about him, we should crave to sit in his presence through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Within this prayer, Paul is asking for God’s light to illuminate within us, and that through faith sitting in his presence can be ours, simply for the asking.
Heavenly Father, help us to remember the importance of deepening our relationship with you as we learn to sit in your presence, and be ever so thankful.
In Christ Love
