SELF CONTROL

Self-control, to say the least, is a difficult task at times. We’ve all been in situations where our first impulse is to “lash out” and retaliate in, likely, a most unhealthy way. Self control is learning to regulate your emotions, thoughts and behavior in the face of temptations and impulses. Easier said than done! Remembering those throughout the bible that were empowered with the self control so many of us desire, is truly a testimony of God’s work and word. Jesus is the first one who comes to mind for me. To think how He was ridiculed and beaten, among other things, is more than what many of us could have handled without retaliating. Needless to say in the real world, everyday is a training session to learn self-control, and the best training book for that is the bible and the examples that are shown to us throughout it. Although I still have my moments lacking in self-control, I am finding ways, through scripture and examples God shows us throughout the bible, to control my emotions and thoughts in a more healthy way, can you say the same?

Proverbs 25:28
Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.

Prayer:
Father, help us to exercise self-control in all areas of our lives. We want to live a self-controlled, upright and godly life, bringing glory to you. In your precious name we pray. Amen
