As I reflect back on how we celebrated Easter over the years, things have certainly changed. As a child I remember the excitement of hunting for Easter eggs and finding all the “goodies” in my Easter basket, dressing up in my Easter best and going to church, and then having the large family get togethers for dinner. I’m sure many of us experienced the same thing. As I grew up, much of that was lost along the way until I had a family of my own, and I found myself copying the same traditions as I had as a child. As my children grew and begin to go their own directions, much of the Easter traditions were lost along the way as well, until the grandchildren came along and , once again, the Easter traditions started over, and now they too are grown and ready to be on their own. However, our daughter and son-in-law are grandparents now, and are trying to keep some traditions going. As for my husband and myself, our traditions are a bit more limited as the distance, geographically, with all our families make it difficult to be together. Celebrating Easter with our church family helps to fill that void and reminds us why we celebrate Easter regardless of the other traditions. The Easter story is one thing that will never change and what a story it is to tell. I pray all families will share that story as part of their traditional Easter celebration, as without it, there is “no” Easter. Praise God for giving us everlasting life!
1 Peter 1;3
Blessed be the the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, as we celebrate the Easter holiday, and as we enjoy all the other Easter traditions, help us to remain focused on what the day is all about and the sacrifice made for us, and no matter how our lives change your story never will. In your precious name we pray. Amen
