Of all the emotions we experience, I think controlling our temper is one of the most challenging, especially when things happen unexpectedly and at the most inconvenient times. We tend to “lash” out at whoever or whatever might be close by, then realize, after some thought and a few deep breaths, why did I let myself get so upset? The good thing is we can, or most of us can, recognize what happened and ask God to help us find some peace, and calm, so we can deal with whatever made us so angry and move on. The worse thing we can do is carry that anger forward as it effects not only ourselves mentally and physically, but our relationships as well. Having flare-ups of anger is not .uncommon for any of us, and I know we are suppose to be “slow to speak and slow to anger” but is not always easy in what I call “impulsive situations,” (when things just happen)! Blowing off some steam is okay once in a while as it may make you feel better as long as no one else gets hurt in the process. I’m sure God shakes His head at us many times but at the same time knows we can recognize our error and fix it and hopefully do better in the future.
James 1:19-20
So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help us to find peace amidst our angry times. Keep us from lashing out and hurting those we love when our anger gets the best of us, help us to learn how to cope with situations that are out of our control and lean more on you for strength. In your precious name we pray. Amen
