WHAT’S IN A SMILE!

As I was leaving Walmart the other day, I noticed a lady sitting on a bench in front of the store waiting for a ride, or assumed she was. She looked a little weary, but as I walked passed her I was able to catch her eye. I smiled at her and said “Good Morning” and in spite of her missing several teeth gave me the largest grin she could muster and said “hello.” As I left the store I wondered if that had helped to lift her day and how many other people made an effort to smile at her. I don’t feel I did anything extraordinary because I am a “smiler,” if there is such a word, in other words it comes easy to me. Smiling to me is a universal language. It tells people you are approachable, friendly, you see “them” and care about them. It’s a very simple facial expression that can communicate so much and, like a hug, words aren’t necessary. I know there are those who don’t outwardly smile for whatever reason. Possibly to protect themselves, not wanting to be approached, could be having a bad day or not feeling well, and, yes, we all have those days, but for those of us who are “smilers,” I hope we are expressing to others inner joy, peace and contentment, and the presence of God’s grace in our lives. Make it a point each day to smile at someone, no matter whoever or wherever, it could impact there day and give them the lift they needed with that simple little gesture.

Proverbs 15:13
A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, may we be a joy to others, even if its just with a smile. May it be a source of encouragement, kindness and cheer to those we meet. May our smite reflect Your love and brighten the days of all those we encounter everyday. In Your precious name we pray. Amen
