“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Messiah is God’s spiritual child and has been fathered by God himself. And everyone who loves Father God loves his children as well. This is how we can be sure that we love the children of God: by having a passionate love for God and by obedience to his commands. True love for God means obeying his commands, and his commands don’t weigh us down as heavy burdens. You see, every child of God overcomes the world, for our faith is the victorious power that triumphs over the world. So who are the world conquerors, defeating its power? Those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.” 1 John 5:1-5 TPT
It can be difficult for us to comprehend, that is, to know that when we except Jesus as our Savior, we become a part of His family, that we can actually call God our Father. Through his love this family continues to grow, and within this love, we learn to love the growing membership. As members, we are to share the good as well as the hard times as we learn about each other, while continuing to grow together within his love.
In this passage, John is explaining the depth of God’s love, in that upon our excepting him, we become a part of his family, with fellow believers becoming our brothers and sisters. He is assuring us that through him, we can overcome the world because our faith is the victorious power that triumphs overall. When we truly love our Father, we obey his commands, and through our faith with love, we continue to seek him in the asking.
Heavenly Father, help us to remember your sacrificial love for us, that in tum we are to continue to love each other, as members of your family, and be ever so thankful.
In Christ Love
