“Jesus called a little one to his side and said to them, ‘Learn this well: Unless you dramatically change your way of thinking and become teachable, and learn about heaven’s kingdom realm with the wide-eyed wonder of a child, you will never be able to enter in. Whoever continually humbles himself to become like this gentle child is the greatest one of heaven’s kingdom realm. And if you tenderly care for this little one on my behalf, you are tenderly caring for me. But if anyone abuses one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for him to have a heavy boulder tied around his neck and be hurled into the deepest sea than to face the punishment he deserves. Be careful that you not corrupt one of these little ones. For I can assure you that in heaven each of their angelic guardians have instant access in my heavenly Father.”‘ Matthew 18:2-6,10 TPT
We are blessed with countless things during our stay here on this earth, but our children are our greatest, not only for us, but to insure future generations. Therefore, training them from birth is critical. Of course, this begins at home, where we pray for Christian families, in order that there would be a solid foundation where the love of Jesus is shared. From there, as the saying goes, it takes a community, and for sure, one that hopefully involves a church or at least a similar organization with a heart and a love for the growth of its children.
In this passage, Jesus is using a child to explain to his disciples, who were being a little self-centered, that we are to become childlike with humble and sincere hearts. Children are weak and dependent on others, but trusting, therefore we are to become like them. We are to teach our children the love of Jesus, while making sure they are protected. He has appointed his angels as a protection for them, and as they grow, He continues to afford us His guidance, simply for the asking.
Heavenly Father, help us to remember the importance of nurturing our children according to your Word, and be ever so thankful.
In Christ Love
