“Lord, come quickly and answer me, for my depression deepens and I’m about to give up. Don’t leave me now or I’ll die! Let the dawning day bring me revelation of your tender, unfailing love. Give me light for my path and teach me, for I trust in you. Save me from all my enemies. For I hide myself in you. I just want to obey all you ask of me. So teach me, Lord, for you are my God. Your gracious Spirit is all I need, so lead me on good paths that are pleasing to you, my one and only God! Lord, if you rescue me, it will bring you more glory, for you are true to your promises. Bring me out of these troubles! Since I am your loving servant, destroy all those who are trying to harm me. And because you are so loving and kind to me, silence all of my enemies!” Psalm 143:7-12 TPT
If we are being honest with ourselves, at some point in our lives we have gone through times when we have felt at a loss and without hope. Those times when, if left unchecked, fear can begin to take over and depression starts to take hold. These are the times when we stop and call upon our Lord for his direction. His gracious Spirit is all we need to steer us in the paths filled with his promises.
In this passage, David was beginning to lose hope to the point of giving up and becoming depressed. But instead, he knew where to go for his direction, for his light. His prayer would be for God’s guidance, for his gracious Spirit to guard his life and to lead him on the paths that would be pleasing to Him. God’s desire is the same for each of us, instead of feelings of loss or of fear total peace can be our, simply for the asking.
Heavenly Father, help us to realize that your desire for us is to live a life filled with peace and love, and for this, we are ever so thankful.
In Christ Love
Margaret
