“They made Peter and John stand in front of the council as they questioned them, saying, ‘Tell us, by what power and authority have you done these things?’ There is no one else who has the power to save us, for there is only one name to whom God has given authority by which we must experience salvation: the name of Jesus. The council members were astonished as they witnessed the bold courage of Peter and John, especially when they discovered that they were just ordinary men who had never had religious training. Then they began to understand the effect Jesus had on them simply by spending time with him. Standing there with them was the healed man, and there was nothing further they could say.” Acts 4:7, 13-14 TPT
Courage is described as mental or moral strength. For us to survive, we must be aware of the source of our individual courageous strength. In today’s fallen world, so many times, we find ourselves in the midst of circumstances where the decisions we make require more courage than we have prepared ourselves to handle on our own. So, where do we go from here?
In this passage, according to the council members, two ordinary men performed a miracle, not in their own strength, but with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The bold courage these apostles presented within themselves, along with the fact that the healed man was standing beside them, let them know that they had been with Jesus. Unfortunately, today we find ourselves attempting to seek solutions on our own instead, they can be ours for the asking.
Heavenly Father, help us to remember bold courage comes as we spend time with Jesus, and from His Presence, we are ever so thankful!
In Christ Love
Margaret
