Having just watched a movie about a young Native American girl who singlehandedly protected her tribe from an unknown predator, I couldn’t help but admire her spirit, bravery, tenacity and strength. Although she had been trained in what a woman’s role was in the tribe, much like in biblical days, her true spirit was to become more like a warrior. She wanted to hunt, be proficient with a bow and arrow and learn to fight. Although her parents did their best to dissuade her from all that, she persisted even having to put up with the chastising and bullying from the young male braves who thought she could never be as strong or as brave as them . In spite of her warnings about her sensing the presence of a predator, no one believed her. As the presence became more of a danger, the young girl began to train herself, relentlessly, for battle with whatever was to come. She proceeded to leave the tribe and hunt for the predator on her own. Having followed her, the young male braves tried to stop her from going any further but encountered the predator before they could stop her. They realized then they were not as prepared for this battle as the girl was, and unfortunately, too little, too late, most of the braves lost their lives. What I saw in her was her wisdom and spirit that helped her to sense the movements of the predator before they happened so she was ready for the challenge before it happened. In the end she did banish the predator and became a tribal leader. Most unusual and remarkable for such a young person , especially a girl! Native Americans believed in the Great Spirit, and to us is God, where it all comes from. May we all grow in that same spiritual strength as the young Native American girl did.
Exodus 15:3
The Lord is a warrior; the Lord is His name.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help us prepare for our everyday battles by putting on your full armor for protection from whatever evil may be ready to influence us both physically, emotionally and mentally. Help us to always be ready to stand our ground. In your precious name we pray. Amen
