My women’s bible study group have been studying all the women of the bible. It’s been an interesting study as how much do we really know about these women, especially the ones with no name. They are referred to as, “Potophar’s Wife,” “The Woman at The Well,” “The Widow of Zerephath,” well, you get the idea! There are over 600 unnamed women in the bible, most are named in relation to who their husband was or where they were from. The more well known women in the bible are remembered for their roles and significance in God’s story, but those with no names have given us valuable lessons, and hopefully, impacted us in some way. They’ve shown us their pains, struggles, weaknesses, faith and how they overcame. I’m sure in reality they did have a name, but for some reason God didn’t feel the name was as important as what they overcame and how they did it and the lesson we can learn from them. I’m sure we have all seen people who have overcome circumstances, do good things and not even know their name, but will always remember what they did!
Ephesians 2:19-22
Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone, in whom the whole building, being joined together grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for bringing us the encouraging stories of all the women in the bible who who even in their weakest moments and struggles were able to overcome them through their faith and strength in You. May we all look to them for inspiration. In your precious name we pray. Amen
