Retail stores have a way, or so it seems, of rushing us through the holidays, and not just Christmas, when we see decorations appear before Halloween, but all those throughout the year. No wonder we feel overwhelmed, and frustrated that we are not moving fast enough to get everything done! Then it use to be that Christmas items, such as wrapping paper, bows, cards, etc., were available to buy on sale for two or three weeks after the holiday, but now if you aren’t there the day after, or two days after, everything is put away and heart shaped boxes of candy appear! So now we are rushed to buy our Valentine gifts, and better do it now or they won’t be available on February 14 because they have to make room for St. Patrick Day items and Easter baskets as well! Logically we are well aware of how we need to prepare for these holidays, at least for the ones we celebrate, but our retail stores have a way of wanting us to buy, buy, buy, and I guess that’s why they rush things because they think that is what we consumers want and know we “will” buy, buy, buy, and it’s not always the things we really need! I’ve often thought what Jesus might have to say about all this. He might see greed in some, but for others a need because He sees their heart. He does want us to know the true meaning of what we are celebrating. We don’t need material things to do so, unless we go about it the right way and are honoring Him.
Jeremiah 2:25
Do not run until your feet are bare and your throat is dry. But you said, “It’s no use! I love foreign Gods, and I must go after them.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help us to ease our overwhelmed minds and slow our hurried pace when things to be falling down on us. Help us to appreciate the present and find peace to meet what lies ahead. In Your precious name we pray. Amen
WHAT’S THE RUSH!
