“‘Listen to my words,’ Jesus said. ‘Anyone who leaves his home behind and chooses me over children, parents, family, and possessions, all for the sake of the gospel, it will come back to him a hundred times as much in this lifetime-homes, family, mothers, brothers, sisters, children, possessions-along with persecutions. And in the age to come, he will inherit eternal life.’ Jesus gathered them all together and said to them, ‘Those recognized as rulers of the people and those who are in top leadership positions rule oppressively over their subjects, but this is not the example you are to follow. You are to lead by a different model. If you want to be the greatest one, then live as one called to serve others. The path to promotion and prominence comes by having the heart of a bond-slave who serves everyone. For even the Son of Man did not come expecting to be served by everyone, but to serve everyone, and to give his life as the ransom price in exchange for the salvation of many”‘ Mark 10:29-30,42-45 TPT
In all we do, we are to keep Jesus first in our lives, and in doing so, He promises an eternal life with him. In this world we will be faced with problems beginning at home, within our very own families, and continuing as we enter into our schools and workplaces. Keeping Jesus first dose not promise perfection here on earth, but eternal life will be our future.
In this passage Mark is telling us that when Jesus came to earth, he humbled Himself by taking on the role as a servant. According to Him, He came to serve, not to be served, and to give His life as a ransom, so that we could have the privilege of living with Him eternally. His desire is that we live our lives using Him as the perfect example, as we seek His continued help in the asking.
Heavenly Father, help us to remember the price that Jesus Christ paid for us, and be eternally grateful.
In Christ Love
