“But here’s the truth: It’s to your advantage that I go away, for if I don’t go away the Divine encourager will not be released to you. But after I depart, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will expose sin and prove that the world is wrong about God’s righteousness and his judgments. But when the truth-giving Spirit comes, he will unveil the reality of every truth within you. He won’t speak on his own, but only what he hears from the Father, and he will reveal prophetically to you what is to come. He will glorify me on the earth, for he will receive from me what is mine and reveal it to you. Everything that belongs to the Father belongs to me-that’s why I say that the Divine Encourager will receive what is mine and reveal it to you.” John 16:7-8,13-15 TPT
The Holy Spirit! The One sent to us as our Divine Encourager, or our Comforter, the One that never leaves us. As Jesus explained to his disciples, He could only be at one place at a time, but the Holy Spirit can cover over all the earth all the time. We never have to be alone. So, this Sunday we have the privilege of celebrating the outpouring of Holy Spirit known as Pentecost.
In this passage Jesus is explaining that it was to everyone’s advantage for him to go away. He assured them that he would never leave them to be on their own, that a Comforter, the Holy Spirit, would come, reassuring them in their decisions. Today, the Holy Spirit continues to glorify the Father, and reveal prophetically to us what is now, and what is to come, as we seek his direction, simply in the asking.
Heavenly Father, help us to remember that no matter the circumstance we find before us, we are never alone, instead, we are blessed with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, for which we are ever so thankful.
In Christ Love
